Abstract
Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is a common condition that occurs as a primary source of pain as well as a comorbid pain with other conditions. MPS that originate from trigger points are among the most frequent pain conditions encountered in the general population. However, at the same time, they are most often underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed disease. Consequently, the treatment of MPS is often inappropriate and/or delayed, with severe negative consequences with regard to suffering and disability in afflicted patients. reatment of MPS consists of pharmacologic and nonpharmacoloigc interventions. Exercise and education are the mainstay treatments for all patients. Medications, physical modalities, dry needling, and trigger point injection are adjunct therapies that are appropriate in some patients.
